Karen Tyler - Living in Spring

acrylic on canvas - 48″ x 48″

My paintings are abstracted interiors rendered in strong colors and layered textures. I like to work large and let my brushwork express my energy and my quick take on what I see. The subjects I paint are all around me, from my home to the interiors of friends and family. All it takes to inspire me is a nook or cranny of a room, my paint box or my view from a window. I occasionally add shadowy human figures to my paintings to showcase and provide context for the objects around them. Accuracy is not an overarching concern for me, but fresh application and spontaneous gesture are. I paint in acrylics so it is possible to layer and juxtapose colors one over another. Painting is my passion, but not my past profession. My past work as an attorney meant that painting used to be my side gig, but I have always been consumed by art. My mother is a nationally-known painter and I grew up with the "life". I have now transitioned to painting as my profession. I create my artwork in my studio in the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. My art world heroes are Matisse, Cezanne, Vuillard, and, of course, my mother, Jean Richardson.

Jeff Pullen - Into The Wind

oil-paint and wax on canvas - 64″ x 48″

This new series of abstract paintings and collages, which began in mid 2017, evolved over time and were not only influenced by, but were a radical departure from my long-time painting on construction series, a reality/illusion dynamic addressing the shifting of the Picture Plane by painting my imagery on constructions of wood, plexi-glass, louver doors, car-hoods, etc., forming a pictorial/sculptural continuum. A return to my early roots in abstraction these new works are compositions of form, color and movement based both in nature as well as inspired by man-made cultural influences including neon, reflections, faded walls and billboards, shadows and light on walls. Jeff Pullen was born in New York City 1948 and is where he has spent his entire career living and working. Studying for his BFA and MFA in Painting at Pratt Institute Pullen was fortunate to work under artists Ernest Briggs, Edward Dugmore and George McNeil. He began exhibiting almost immediately after graduation, signing his first gallery contract in 1977 with the Neill Gallery in Soho, where he spent four years. In the succeeding forty years Pullen worked with many galleries throughout the country and abroad highlighted by a 20+ year representation with Adamar Fine Arts, in Miami. Pullen has enjoyed over fifty solo exhibits and numerous group shows, his work represented internationally in many private collections, as well as several public institutions.

Friedhard Meyer - Farbzone Ultramarin

acrylic - 180 x 140 cm

Michael Wagner - Ethnologischer Codex II

acrylic on forex

Thinking and feeling, geometry and color - between these poles I explore my artistic possibilities, although with all seriousness playful and poetic components are always involved. In this way I develop a visual world that has its roots in the strictness of the constructive and concrete, but at the same time is also based on individuality and spontaneous intuition. Today I work in the field of vivid abstraction, favoring color as a wonderful medium, as a sonorous language.
