Grey Cube Gallery proudly presents the third Faces online art show for the month of August 2022. The show encompassed a range of artistic styles and mediums (oil on canvas, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, ink, colored pencil, collage, photography, digital). Each submission has been judged based on the following elements of artistic expression: orginality and quality of art, overall design, creativity, interpretation of the theme, demonstration of artistic ability and usage of medium. Out of all entries, 104 artworks were shortlisted for inclusion in the show. The competition attracted entries from many countries across the world: Croatia, Italy, USA, Turkey, Australia, Malaysia, Poland, United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, Austria, New Zealand, Japan and Ukraine. Enjoy the show and thank you for expressing an interest in our competition.

BEST OF SHOW

IMage

Cher Pruys - Catching Snowflakes

acrylic - 12'' x 10''

Capturing nature’s beauty, the way I found it is my foundation. The groundwork starts with both feet in the earth. I let the picture and the vibe from that journey morph the moment into a representation of opportunities that didn’t exist without technology. My style mixes two core pillars: something I love (photography) with skills I have honed (technology). My vision is to create something out of nothing – to share that moment in time with other humans - enhancing our lives through art.

FIRST PLACE

Georgina Macken - Winter Train Ride

watercolor - 60 x 110 cm

Colours have always had smells and textures for me because I was born with autism and sensory synesthesia. Letters, numbers, sounds and people can trigger vivid colour sensations, and my paintings demonstrate what I see and feel around my subject. The eyes of a human trigger many concurrent senses and so my portraits enable me to enjoy the power of the eyes without needing to turn away and close mine.

SECOND PLACE

Bob Moskowitz - Levi

oil - 30'' x 20''

If there is power in the mundane, I attempt to record moments of human significance in the commonplace. The work suggests aspects of the human condition in context with the subject’s culture which can be revealed through observation and a peeling back of the layers. Although the subjects mask their emotions and feelings, close observation begins to reveal the specifics of content and meaning. The viewer is a participant in the un-masking of the innermost and universal motivations of people who would be otherwise be un-observed and ignored.

THIRD PLACE

Jay Johansen - 7 Urban Innocence

acrylic on canvas - 42'' x 36''

Raised by my artist-father in Oakland, California, portrait artist I began my journey into the art world at a very young age. Painting ballerinas, matadors, and Hawaiian dancers, I established an international collector base, ultimately leading to commissioned paintings of music icons, world dignitaries, as well as a long list of celebrity collectors. Using broad strokes, as distinct from my previous style, I enjoy a freedom I never felt as a professional artist. Imbued with an energy of renewal, I am creating art with the verve I had as a child in my father's studio. I refer to my work as Pop Fusion Art.
