NATURE ART SHOW

Grey Cube Gallery proudly presents the third Nature show for the month of February 2022. The show encompassed a range of artistic styles and mediums (oil on canvas, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, collage, photography, digital). Each submission has been judged based on the following elements of artistic expression: orginality and quality of art, overall design, creativity, interpretation of the theme, demonstration of artistic ability and usage of medium. Out of all entries, 99 artworks were shortlisted for inclusion in the show. The competition attracted entries from many countries across the world: USA, Austria, France, Ireland, Italy, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, Russia, Germany, Japan, Panama, Slovakia and Singapore. Enjoy the show and thank you for expressing an interest in our competition.

BEST OF SHOW

Carola E. Thiele - Blue Mountain

oil on canvas - 70 x 50 cm

My thought in creating my images is to show the inevitable connection with the totality. The connection with any part of our surroundings. Whether death, invisible or alive. The need to give respect and attention to the invisible, but tangible, part of our environment lets me create my works. Our intelligence and logic meanwhile exclude divine beings, as they are handed down, and yet the process of our existence is just as "divine" as the existence of a mosquito or a blade of grass. In the smallest part of all existence, everything is connected and a great wholeness. I want to give moments again a spirit that people understand because it has a human face.

FIRST PLACE

Marjorie Moskowitz - Bee Balm

oil - 48″ x 36″

My work examines mark making and the nuances of color and light in nature. These paintings involve the close observation of aspects of landscape and the amplification of these images. Current paintings focus on a moment in time, in nature, when plants are at the peak of their reproductive cycle. They are fully asserting their seductive beauty/perfection/ splendor/ripeness. We observe blooming fields in their entirety. These paintings are the opposite of that configuration. Just as all matter is made up of atoms which contain electronically moving parts, the focus is on select blooms, unusual perspectives, and often shows the importance of their smallest components.

Paul Delpani - Troll Fjord Pano -

photography - 40 x 100 cm

Nature is a widespread topic - from the beauty of plants and landscape to cliffy and dangerrous suroundings. The art works presented are from my infrared series. By using full spectrum photography your view is tricked and broadened, you even may gain "insights". In the beginning chaotic, just pushing the button. Nowadays I am working concepitonelly and in series being trained by my economic education in analytical and structured processes which has been transferred to my artistic approach. Most of my series are ongoing projects, partly over a long time. Art arises of doing, may it be trial and error in the beginning. Yet once the result found this way is pursued and refined. Art shall inspire and raise questions.

THIRD PLACE

IMage

Patsy Lindamood - Spoonies

watercolor - 18'' x 24''

"Bestie" is an homage to my son and his constant companion, Nala. In just a few short years, they have completed literally hundred of hikes and overnights in the wilds of Utah. When I get to join them, my son and I always put a great deal of special effort into staging and capturing spectacular sunset/sunrise shots. "Spoonies" captures one of my favorite birds to paint. Their rather prehistoric looking bills are actually an amazing natural adaptation. And their pink hues are "spotable" (that is one of my birding terms) from great distances. This trio derives from several hundred shots I took about two years out behind the Texas A & M campus in Corpus Christi - one of my all-time favorite birding locales. I could watch these birds forage the shallow waters for hours.
